DCU: Kurt Russell Says He’s Interested In Playing James Gunn’s Jor-El

Speculations abound that Kurt Russell may assume the role of Jor-El in “Superman: Legacy,” and recent comments from the actor suggest his interest in the part. With preparations underway for principal photography following the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the cast for the highly anticipated Superman reboot continues to expand.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Russell discussed the possibility of portraying Superman’s biological father, Jor-El, in James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy.” Reflecting on Marlon Brando’s iconic portrayal in “Superman: The Movie,” Russell expressed enthusiasm for the role, stating, “Yeah! Yeah, I’ll take on Marlon Brando!”

Acknowledging the character’s versatility, Russell emphasized the potential for a fresh interpretation of Jor-El in Gunn’s vision. Given Gunn’s inclination to deviate from traditional origin stories, “Superman: Legacy” offers an opportunity to explore a unique dynamic between Clark Kent and Jor-El from the outset, rather than depicting their initial encounter.

While details regarding Jor-El’s role remain undisclosed, Russell’s interest hints at the intriguing possibilities for character development in the film. As “Superman: Legacy” aims for a departure from convention, fans eagerly anticipate how Gunn will reimagine this beloved character.

“Superman: Legacy,” directed by James Gunn, is slated for release on July 24, 2025, promising a fresh take on the classic superhero tale.
