Sean Gunn’s New DCU Casting Semi-Confirms Gal Gadot Will Not Be Playing Wonder Woman

Sean Gunn is stepping into the DC Universe once again, this time portraying the villain Maxwell Lord. This marks Gunn’s fourth character in the DCU, following his roles as Weasel, G.I. Robot, and Calendar Man.

Previously portrayed by Pedro Pascal in “Wonder Woman 1984,” Maxwell Lord’s recasting hints at broader changes within the DCU. While it’s uncertain if Gal Gadot will be replaced as Wonder Woman, Gunn’s casting suggests significant shifts in the cinematic universe.

Though details about Gunn’s involvement in James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” remain unconfirmed, Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro suggests that Max Lord will be referenced in the upcoming Superman project, reserving his full appearance for future DCU installments.

Known for his collaborations with brother James Gunn, Sean Gunn gained acclaim for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, notably as Kraglin Obfonteri in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series and Weasel in “The Suicide Squad.” Despite his established credentials, the announcement received mixed reactions from fans, with some expressing disappointment over the role transition from Pascal to Gunn, citing concerns of nepotism.
