Following the recent termination of Melissa Barrera, it’s now confirmed that Jenna Ortega, known for her role in “Wednesday,” won’t be reprising her character in “Scream 7.” Deadline reported today that Ortega’s departure is unrelated to Barrera’s dismissal by Spyglass Media. Sources indicate that Ortega’s exit predates the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.
Reportedly, the script for “Scream 7” is still in development, and Ortega’s commitment to the Netflix series “Wednesday” clashes with filming schedules. She’s set to start shooting the second season of Tim Burton’s “Addams Family” spin-off in Ireland next April, extending into the summer of 2024. Additionally, Ortega has commitments for “Beetlejuice 2,” scheduled for a Labor Day 2024 release.
The commencement of filming for “Scream 7” remains uncertain, with Ortega’s packed schedule likely causing delays. Spyglass Media issued a statement reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance on hate speech, following Barrera’s dismissal. Director Christopher Landon expressed his disappointment before deleting his post. Spyglass Media has yet to comment on Ortega’s departure.
