Brendan Fraser’s First Lead Role Since His Oscar Win Revealed

Brendan Fraser, acclaimed for his role in ‘The Mummy’, is set to star in Searchlight’s ‘Rental Family’ following his recent Best Actor Oscar win for ‘The Whale’.

Directed by Hikari, known for ‘Beef’, and co-written with Stephen Blahut, the film follows a struggling actor in Tokyo hired by a Japanese rental family company as a token American. Fraser’s portrayal embarks on a journey of self-discovery as he navigates the roles he embodies in others’ lives.

Scheduled to begin production this Spring in Japan, ‘Rental Family’ is produced by Shin Yamaguchi, Eddie Vaisman, and Julia Lebedev. Executive producers include Blahut and Tomo Koizumi, while Searchlight executives Taylor Friedman and Daniel Yu oversee the project. Fraser’s return post-Oscar win marks a resurgence in his career, with ‘Rental Family’ being his first choice post-award.

Amid speculation about his potential return to ‘The Mummy’ franchise, Fraser’s selective approach to roles suggests a deliberate consideration of future projects, heightening anticipation for his upcoming endeavors.
